Maybe it's because they're the same kinds of silences he fills up with
meaningless chatter. Things you just don't talk about because they point to
other things you don't want to talk about and before you know it you're
bleeding again. He doesn't poke at whatever it was Derek was about to say.
In fact, he's perfectly content to never talk about Catcher in the Rye
again. It's bad enough reading it the first time.
But Derek's melodrama must be addressed, and to that end Stiles just rolls
his eyes. "No, I just can't imagine you as the 'reading is fundamental'
type. I thought lurking was your only hobby. Or breaking and entering." And
yet, despite the words, his tone is almost companionable. He has yet to
actually kick Derek out during one of these visits; in fact, he usually has
some excuse for him to stay. "And my google-fu is strong, okay, it's just I
started reading this thing and I can't stop halfway through a book. Ever."
